HRIA Mentoring Program | Interview with Gavin Kaye

Can you tell us about your role at Site HQ?
I’m the current Sales Manager at Site HQ.

On a daily basis I deal with many companies within the Hire Industry all over Australia & provide support to our BDM’s & admin staff throughout Australia also.

What initially drew you to become a mentor?
Quite a few reasons.

Although it sounds very cliché I do like helping others be the best they can be & thought if I could play a small part in the progression of a mentee then it would be well worthwhile being part of the program.

I also think as a leader you should always be seeking constant improvement within yourself & taking part in this program I saw as a way to improve my leadership/mentoring skills.

What does being a part of this program mean to you?
It is a way of giving back as such. I started in hire 20 years ago with absolutely no knowledge of Hire whatsoever but have been fortunate to have had many good mentors over the years from various different companies. What I love about this industry is that you really can go as far as you want without needing any special qualifications as such. As long as you have a solid work ethic & the right attitude. It’s an industry that anyone can come into & make a career out of.

What are you looking forward to most at HIRE24?
I’m really looking forward to catching up with many contacts throughout the industry from all parts of Australia.

From your experience within the mentorship, what stood out to you the most and what will you take away from this experience?
I’ve enjoyed seeing the Mentees grow in confidence throughout the program.

I’ve also really loved hearing from the other mentors in the program throughout our group sessions who have so much insightful knowledge to share on many different topics covered.

What would you say to anyone considering being part of the Women in Hire or Young Professional program?
I would highly recommend anyone considering taking part in the programs. It’s a great way to meet other people in the industry and to expand your network but also learn from the various challenges that we all face at times which can be quite similar with all companies.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about becoming a mentor?
If you have the time then do it. It’s a great way to meet & build relationships with many other people within the Industry but also build on your own leadership/mentoring skills.
